Cold weather just around the corner

Fall is here and that brings cold nights. The cold can cause havoc on your home especially when you break out those portable heaters! Be careful and smart when keeping warm this fall and winter. Check for any leaks around your house and your gutters for clogs that could cause water to dam back into your shingles. Check the flashing around your chimney, your roof, chimney and gutters. These are all trouble spots for water intrusion into your home.

Protecting that gift for that special someone.

With the holidays just around the corner a lot of you will be spending some hard earned money on a gift for a loved one. Most homeowners policies give some coverage for jewelry, gold, watches etc. however the amount varies with each company and the coverage is minimal. A lot of our carriers have the ability to schedule specific items. All that is needed is a recent appraisal. For large collections we have markets we can go to for that as well. So if you are planning on getting that special gift for that special someone.....don't forget to put some insurance on it.

Hurricane Sandy passed us by.

We were lucky that Hurricane Sandy passed beyond our shores and our area suffered little damage. Even with storm season now almost over, we still can get heavy sustained rains during the fall and winter months. Those that are not in a high risk flood zone can still sustain damage from these rains and your homeowners policy does not cover the peril of flood. For homes that are not in high risk areas the cost for flood insurance is easily obtainable and not expensive at all. Call our office and we can give you an indication right over the phone.

Another satisfied customer

From one of our satisfied customers....Debbie writes "I recently had Rebecca review my house insurance and car insurance policies. I had been using State Farm for both policies for several years......within a matter of moments, Rebecca was able to rate my policies with a variety of insurance companies....she saved me almost $500 on my house policy and over $900 on my car insurance.....besides saving me money, she was able to provide and additional level of coverage...with money as tight as it is now, you would be crazy not to give Rebecca a try"

Dear Rebecca,

The insurance policies you have taken care of for family members have been done on time and with their best interest at heart along with the best pricing you could get for their needs.

Your recent task of looking for better coverage at a good rate for John’s motorcycle and coming back to us with an honest statement of – “you should keep it with who you have, I can’t beat it” shows your desire of putting the customer first.

Thank you for your honesty and integrity.

A lot of people carry the state minimum limit of $10,000 for property damage on their auto insurance policies.  Although carrying these limits may seem to be helpful to your financial situation now, a lot of people find that it ends up costing them much, much more in the long run.  $10,000 is not a lot of money when you are talking about the cost of a car accident.  If you are in an at fault car accident, your property damage has to cover all of the damage you do to everyone else’s property.  This includes their car, buildings, road signs, etc.  This is also sometimes required to pay for the services of the workers who have to come clean up the accident.  This is a true story about myself: I never thought I would be in an accident and defiantly never thought I would be in an at-fault accident, but I was.  It was raining and I could have sworn the light was still green but apparently it had turned while I wasn’t looking.  I hit another vehicle and a light pole.  Neither of us was going over 45, but his car was totaled.  He was driving a fairly inexpensive rental vehicle but its actual cash value was still over $13,000.  The light pole I hit was over $4,000.  I had to pay for some of the county road workers that came to clean up the accident, $2,000.  The costs add up so quickly it could make your head spin, I know mine did.  Luckily, I carried a $25,000 property damage limit.  But just think if I had not.  I’m not sure where I would have come up with the over $9,000 difference if I only had $10,000 of coverage.  So, just something to keep in mind.
